Bio-Assay Guided Identification of Antioxidant Fractions from Methanolic Extract of Polyalthia longifolia Seeds and their Hepatoprotective Effects against Ethanol Induced Oxidative Stress

The present study is aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of selected methanolic fractions Polyalthia longifolia (Sonn.) Thwaite seeds in ethanol-induced oxidative stress rats. Initially, extract was fractionated using column chromatography. preliminary screening these identified two main bioactive (F3 F5), which were found have significant radical scavenging metal ion chelation compared with ascorbic acid. Based on profile, F3 F5 evaluated for activity ethanol-intoxicated Wistar rats grouped (n=6) treated (200 400 mg/kg), ethanol (5 g/kg, 20 % w/v) silymarin (100 mg/kg) orally 28 d. outcomes that chronic administration significantly (p<0.0001) altered liver parameters markers (malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase catalase). co-administration prominently ameliorated induced by F3. Histopathological studies further supported protective action F5. demonstrates possess augmenting magnitude enzymes catalase reducing malondialdehyde levels.
